Khada valley Development plan

The Government of Georgia is constructing a new highway between Kvesheti and Kobi, a challenging section of the North-South Corridor, funded by the Asian Development Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which will bypass the Gudauri Resort and the Jvari Pass.

The project organization BAU Design and the subcontractors involved in the project by the company, worked on the development plan of the Khada Valley under the order of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Work on the project was ongoing for 18 months.

Currently, the villages in the Khada valley are nearly uninhabited Due to the lack of road access during winter. Only during the brief summer season do the residents return to attend ancestral days or summer pastures and their houses. A significant portion of the population has relocated to the lower villages of the valley, such as Kvesheti, Arakhveti, and Bedoni, as well as other settlements in Dusheti and throughout Georgia.

The Khada Valley is a unique cultural landscape that has developed over centuries through a balanced and harmonious combination of material cultural heritage and the natural environment. The area contains a wide range of cultural heritage monuments, which are diverse in type and chronology, confirming its distinctiveness from other regions.

The future development should be consistent with the sustainable use of cultural and natural value of the valley, balanced management of anticipated private commercial interests, coordinated efforts of the local community, state and public sector, to achieve conservation-based development.
